Valley of the Gods 2 – A bold return to Egypt

Three years after the first release, Yggdrasil took another trip to Ancient Egypt with Valley of the Gods 2. Instead of simply giving the original a new coat of paint, they changed things up properly. Released in 2020, this sequel features a 6-reel layout that looks like a pyramid tipped on its side.
The reels start with one symbol on the first reel, two on the second, and so on in a 1-2-3-4-5-2 format. Golden scarab blockers surround the reels, waiting to be smashed open, while pyramids and palm trees in the background set the scene. Straight away, it feels different from the first game.
Symbols & ways to win
The reels are filled with familiar faces: royals from 9 to Ace, plus four Egyptian gods – Bastet, Horus, Sobek and Anubis. Bastet pays the most at 20× your stake for six of a kind. There’s no standard wild symbol here, but the wild reel feature takes its place.
Wins form when matching symbols line up on adjacent reels starting from the left, giving you 240 ways to win at the start. Clear those pesky blockers, and the game can explode into a massive 20,160 ways.

Stats & betting
Valley of the Gods 2 comes with a 96.3 % RTP and medium-high volatility. You’ll get about a 20 % hit rate, which means wins aren’t constant, but they can be chunky when they land. Bets start at R1 and go up to R1,000 per spin, with a maximum win of 5,481× your stake. That puts it firmly in the “thrill-seeker but not insane risk” bracket.
Scarabs & respins
Every win triggers a respin and unleashes scarabs that smash through blockers. The bigger the win, the more blockers come off. Clear the entire grid, and you unlock the full layout plus an extra life. From there, three collection meters kick in:
- Red scarabs give you an extra life.
- Blue scarabs boost the win multiplier by +1.
- Gold scarabs transform a random reel into a wild reel.
This system keeps you glued to the screen, always hoping the right colour scarab flies into the right meter.
Valley of the Gods 2 Wild reels
Instead of random wilds dropping in, you earn them by collecting five gold scarabs. When triggered, a reel turns fully wild and stays that way until the respins finish. Collect more gold scarabs, and you can add extra wild reels, turning the grid into something dangerous in the best way. With a multiplier on top, it’s the kind of setup that can produce memorable wins. Of course, nothing stings more than being one scarab short when the respins cut off.
Extra lives & volatility
Extra lives act as a safety net. If a respin doesn’t land a win, one life gets used up to keep things going. Run out, and the board resets back to its starting shape. The volatility makes these streaks more dramatic – sometimes thrilling, sometimes brutal. The difference between landing a red scarab or not can mean either extending a hot streak or hitting a dead stop.
Valley of the Gods 2 Presentation
Yggdrasil has a knack for visuals and sound, and this sequel keeps the bar high. The desert backdrop glows with golden light, pyramids stand tall, and the reels sparkle when the grid expands. The soundtrack seamlessly blends Egyptian-style melodies with modern beats that intensify during respins. Little details like scarabs crawling across the screen and palm trees swaying in the background give the game a polished feel.
How it stacks up to the original
Valley of the Gods 2 cranks things up in nearly every way. The bigger grid, higher volatility, and larger max win make it more appealing for players who found the first game too tame. The new wild reel feature adds extra tension, while the core mechanic of clearing blockers and collecting scarabs keeps the link to the original game.
For some, the pyramid-shaped grid and multiple meters might feel complex, but others will enjoy the added challenge. Think of it as a tougher, more strategic version of the original.
Final thoughts
If you liked Valley of the Gods, this sequel is well worth a try. It keeps the puzzle-like feel of smashing blockers but adds new twists that raise both the risk and the reward. The volatility is sharper, so it’s not for players who want a chilled session.
